What Is the Importance of Istighfar? Hi all readers! In several previous articles, I have explained some important things about the Miracle of Istighfar. In this article I will explain one important question about Istighfar; What is the importance of Istighfar? As Muslims, we must know that. The reason is that Islam strongly encourages us to always read Istighfar. That’s why I wrote this article.

Before I explain more about the importance of Istighfar, you must know that there are three important things that I want to explain about it;

After I explain each of these discussions, I will explain the importance of Istighfar.

Four Verses of the Quran About the Importance of Istighfar

The four verses of the Quran regarding the importance of Istighfar are as follows;

وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَأَنتَ فِيهِمْ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

And Allah will not torment them while you are among them. And Allah will not torture them while they ask for forgiveness (reading Istighfar). (Al-Anfal; 33).

فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا

So, I said (to them, “Ask your Lord for forgiveness (reading Istighfar), verily He is the Most Forgiving (Noah; 10).

يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا

Surely, He will send very heavy rain to you. (Noah; 11).

وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَارًا

And multiply your possessions and your children, and give you gardens and rivers. (Noah; 12)

Readers all! If we understand the four verses of the Quran above, the importance of Istighfar according to the four verses is as follows;

• Istighfar is one of the best prayers so that we will avoid being tormented by Allah.
• Istighfar is a very good prayer so that Allah will give us the ease of working, so that we have offspring, so that we get a lot of rizki, and so on.

Four Hadith About the Important of Istighfar

The four important hadiths of the important of Istighfar are as follows;

رَوَى الْبَيْهَقِيُّ وَالْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ وَابْنُ أَبِيْ الدُّنْيَا عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا مِنْ عَبْدٍ وَلَا أُمَّةٍ اِسْتَغْفَرَ اللهَ فِيْ كُلِّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعِيْنَ مَرَّةً لَمْ يُكْتَبْ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِيْنَ , وَمَنْ اِسْتَغْفَرَ اللهَ فِيْ كُلِّ اللَّيْلَةِ سَبْعِيْنَ مَرَّةً لَمْ يُكْتَبْ مِنَ الْغَافِلِيْنَ

Al-Baihaqi, al-Ashbahani, and Ibn Abi ad-Dunya narrated from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, “There is no servant or people who ask forgiveness from Allah (reciting Istighfar) every day until seventy times, unless he will not be recorded as a liar. And whoever asks forgiveness from Allah (reciting Istighfar) every night up to seventy times, then he will not be recorded as someone who forgot.”

رَوَى أَبُوْ دَاوُدَ عَنْ اِبْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ لَزِمَ الْإِسْتِغْفَارَ جَعَلَ اللهُ لَهُ مِنْ كُلِّ ضَيْقٍ مَخْرَجًا , وَمِنْ كُلِّ هَمٍّ فَرَجًا , وَرَزَقَهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ

Abu Daud narrated from Ibn Abbas, from the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, “Whoever always reads Istighfar, Allah will make a solution for every difficulty for him, happiness for every difficulty, and (Allah will) give him fortune. in a way he didn’t expect.”

وَرَوَى التِّرْمِذِيُّ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنْ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : يَقُوْلُ اللهُ تَعَالَى ياَ ابْنَ آدَمَ لَوْ بَلَغَتْ ذُنُوْبُكَ عَنَانَ السَّمَاءِ ثُمَّ اسْتَغْفَرْتَنِيْ غَفَرْتُ لَكَ

At-Tirmidhi narrated from Anas, from the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. He said, “Allah Taala said; O son of Adam, if your sins have reached the side of the sky then you ask for my forgiveness (reading Istighfar), then I will forgive you.”

وَرَوَى أَحْمَدُ وَالْحَاكِمُ : قَالَ إِبْلِيْسُ وَعِزَّتِكَ لَاأَزَالُ أُغْوِيْ عِبَادَكَ مَا دَامَتْ أَرْوَاحُهُمْ فِيْ أَجْسَادِهِمْ . فَقَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : وَعِزَّتِيْ وَجَلَالِيْ لَاأَزَالُ أَغْفِرُ لَهُمْ مَا اسْتَغْفَرُوْانِيْ

Ahmad and al-Hakim reported, “Satan said,” For the sake of Your glory, I will always plunge Your servants into sin as long as their souls are still in their bodies. ” Allah Azza wa Jalla said, “For the sake of My glory and My majesty, I will always forgive them as long as they ask forgiveness from Me (reading Istighfar).”

Readers all! If we understand the four hadiths above, the importance of Istighfar according to the four verses is as follows;

• Istighfar is one of the prayers that Allah will forgive all of our sins, even though our sins are very many. Take note! Allah will forgive all our sins if we ask Him for forgiveness (reading Istighfar).
• Istighfar is one of the prayers that Allah will provide a solution to our problems.
• Istighfar is a prayer so that we don’t forget Allah.

The Most Excellent Istighfar Redactions

The most excellent Istighfar readactions are as follows;

Redactions of Istighfar al-Adhim

وَرَوَى أَبُوْ دَاوُدَ وَالتِّرْمِذِيُّ عَنْ اِبْنِ مَسْعُوْدٍ عَنْ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ قَالَ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الْعَظِيْمَ الَّذِيْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّوْمُ وَأَتُوْبُ إِلَيْهِ . غُفِرَتْ ذُنُوْبُهُ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ قَدْ فَرَّ مِنَ الزَّحْفِ

Abu Daud and at-Tirmidhi narrated from Ibn Mas’ud, from the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, “Whoever reads أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الْعَظِيْمَ الَّذِيْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّوْمُ وَأَتُوْبُ إِلَيْهِ (I ask forgiveness from Allah, there is no god but Him, Who is the Most Living and Always takes care of His servants, and I repent to him), then all his sins will be forgiven even though his sins are very much.

Redactions of Sayyidul Istighfar

وَقَدْ رَوَى الْبُخَارِيُّ وَغَيْرُهُ عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ عَنْ رَسُوْلِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : أَلآ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى سَيِّدِ الْإِسْتِغْفَارِ اَللُّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّيْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِيْ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ أَبُوْءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ , وَأَبُوُءْ بِذَنْبِيْ , فَاغْفِرْلِيْ , فَإِنَّهُ لَايَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَفِيْ رِوَايَةٍ : وَارْحَمْنِيْ فَإِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْمُ . يَقُوْلُ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ قَالَهَا حِيْنَ يُمْسِيْ فَمَاتَ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ , وَمَنْ قَالَهَا حِيْنَ يُصْبِحُ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ

Al-Bukhari and hadith experts besides him narrated from Syaddad bin Aus, from the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. He said, “Are you willing to let me tell you about Sayyidul Istighfar. (Sayyidu Istighfar is) اَللُّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّيْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِيْ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ أَبُوْءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ , وَأَبُوُءْ بِذَنْبِيْ , فَاغْفِرْلِيْ , فَإِنَّهُ لَايَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ (O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me. I am Your servant. I am always in Your promises and I promise You according to my ability. I take refuge in You from the bad things I have done. I acknowledge all the blessings You have done give it to me. I confess my sin. So, forgive me. Truly, no one can forgive all sins except You). In another narration it is explained the continuation of the hadith, “وَارْحَمْنِيْ فَإِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُوْرُ الرَّحِيْم So have mercy on me. Verily You are God, Most Forgiving and Most Merciful. ” The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, “Whoever says that (Sayyidul Istighfar) in the evening, then he dies, then he will definitely go to Heaven. Whoever says that (Sayyidul Istighfar) in the morning, then he dies, then he will definitely go to Heaven.”
