The Grandchildren of Prophet Muhammad ~ Hi all readers! In the previous article I explained about the children of Prophet Muhammad. In addition, I have also explained that all of his descendants came from the marriage of his daughter, Fatima, to Ali bin Abi Talib. From the marriage was born five of his grandchildren. As Muslims we must know that. That is what I will explain in this article. So you have to read this article to the end.
But, before I explain the theme of this article further, about who are the grandchildren of the Prophet Muhammad, I want to explain (this is very important), that during Fatima’s life, Ali bin Abi Talib never remarried another woman. It is true, Islamic historical data explains that he once wanted to marry another woman. But Fatima refused that and complained to the Prophet Muhammad. He also did not agree if Ali bin Abi Talib practiced polygamy. In fact, he said, “Whoever hurts Fatimah, then it is the same as hurting him.” That is the legal basis, that all men who are married to descendants of the Prophet Muhammad who are women may not do polygamy.
Now, with regard to the grandchildren of the Prophet Muhammad, if we read the history of Islam that explains it, then we will get an explanation, that he has three grandchildren and two granddaughters. His three grandchildren are Hasan, Husain, and Muhsin. While his two granddaughters are Umm Kalsum and Zainab. They were all born from the marriage of Fatima bint of the Prophet Muhammad to Ali bin Abi Talib.
Actually it is important history about the five grandchildren of the Prophet Muhammad, especially about Husain bin Ali who was killed in battle in Karbala on Friday, the month of Muharam, in sixty-one hijri. He was born on the 5th, Sya’ban month, the 4th year of Hijria, after Hasan bin Ali. He and his followers were slaughtered by Yazid bin Muawiyah’s forces. Even their heads are beheaded. Of course I will not explain it all here. Maybe I will explain about that in the next few special articles, insha Allah.
As for Hasan bin Ali, the first child of Fatima bint of Prophet Muhammad and Ali bin Abi Talib, he was born in the month of Ramadan, the 3rd year of Hijria. Historical data differ about the cause of death. Some say that he died due to illness (this is in a valid opinion). But there are also those who say that he died from poisoning.
Whereas Muhsin, the third grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, I did not find much explanation from historical data about him. All the historical data that I found explained that he died when he was a child.
As for Umm Kalsum bint Ali bin Abi Talib, she married Umar bin Khattab when she was a child. At first Ali ibn Abi Talib did not approve of it. The reason is because she is still small. But the reason for Umar bin Khattab is very reasonable; he wanted to strengthen family relations with the Prophet Muhammad. That is why Ali ibn Abi Talib, the father, agreed with that. Umar bin Khattab gave her dowry in the form of forty thousand Dirhams of money. From the marriage they both had a son named Zaid bin Umar.
While Zainab bint Ali bin Abi Talib, he became the wife of Abdullah bin Jakfar. Not much historical data that I found about her.
All Readers! That is a very brief explanation of the grandchildren of Prophet Muhammad, whether male or female. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!
I think that’s enough for this article. May be useful. Amen!
See you in the next article!
