The Best Information About Wudu in Islam

Hi all readers! In this article I will explain some important things about wudu. For Muslim wudu is a familiar thing. Yup! That is one thing that must be done by someone who has a present if he wants to pray, reading Quran, Hajj, and so on.

This article will explain the following matters;

A. Wudu’s privileges for Muslims.
B. The law of perfecting wudu.
C. The best prayer after wudu.

Straight to!

Wudu’s privileges for Muslims

Muslims have many opportunities to get merit. Not only prayer, fasting, and pilgrimage. Even wudu is one thing that if it is done very well, then it will be a very big advantage for them.

Information about wudu’s privileges for Muslims can be found in the hadith below;

From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu ‘anhu, he said, “I have heard Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Verily my people on the Day of Judgment come with white light in all members of wudu (limbs washed and wiped in wudlu) from the former wudu. Whoever of you can prolong his white light, then let him do that.” The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

The above hadith explains, that Prophet Muhammad’s people had several advantages and privileges compared to other people. Their strengths and virtues that are most visible in the world are that these Muslims have been destined to become Prophet Muhammad’s people, the most important figure of the Prophet, and he even got the title “Beloved of Allah”. As for the next life the people of Prophet Muhammad will come with white light in all parts of the body that are washed and wiped when they doing wudlu.

Their white light is a sign that they are the people of Prophet Muhammad. With that sign he recognized his people. That is what becomes their jewelry later. Because of that in the above hadith he said, “Whoever of you is able to extend his white light, then let him do it.” We can do that by doing all the suggestions in wudlu, such as gargling, rubbing both ears, breathing a little water then take it out, wash it and rub it three times, etc.

But what we need to know here is that what is the virtue and privilege of the people of Prophet Muhammad is the white light, not the wudu. But this white light arises because of wudu.

The Law of Perfecting Wudlu

We all know that if a good work is done perfectly, it will give a very perfect result. Likewise, wudu. If wudu is done perfectly, then the result will be very good.

But does the law perfecting wudu? Is that mandatory or just a suggestion?

I will quote one hadith to answer the above question. Pay attention!

From Anas bin Malik radliyallahu ‘anhu, he said,” Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam once saw someone on his feet there was something like a nail that was not doused with water. He then said, “Come back and complete your wudu!” The hadith is narrated by Abu Daud and an-Nasa’i.

If we understand the hadith above, then surely, we already know that people who do not know their shortcomings in doing something that is mandatory cannot be forgiven. In the above hadith, it is explained, that Prophet Muhammad had told someone to perfect their wudu because in their legs there was a part that was not watered. If we know such an event, then we must remind the person.

There are a number of things we can conclude from the hadith above. Among others are;

  1. We must perfect wudlu by washing all parts of the body that we must wash and wipe all parts of the body that must be rubbed. If there is only one point that is not washed away or broken, then our wudu is not valid.
  2. There are differences of opinion among Islamic law experts related to perfecting wudlu as in the case above. For example, if there is one point on the foot that should be washed but it is not touched by water. Do we need to repeat the wudlu from the beginning or do we just need to wash the point on the feet that are not watered? Malikiyah said that we must repeat the wudlu from the beginning. The majority of Islamic law experts say that we are encouraged to repeat wudlu from the beginning.

Thus, we must perfect the wudu by ensuring everything has been done. That is because if there is only one point in the body that should be splashed with water or smothered but not splashed or not smothered, then our wudu is invalid. If our wudlu is not valid, then we cannot do the prayer which is actually our obligation. This is the essence of the problem!

The Best Prayer After Wudu

If a Muslim has performed wudu, then he is encouraged to recite a prayer. What is that?
In a hadith there is information about the best prayer that should be read by a Muslim after he performs wudu. I will quote it! Pay attention!

From Umar radliyallahu ‘anhu, he said, “The Messenger of Allaah ‘alaihi wa sallam said,” It is not one of you who performs wudu then perfects it, then says, “I testify that there is no god but Allah who has no partner , and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger, “except the eight doors of Heaven have been opened for him. He can enter any door he wants.” The hadith is narrated by Muslim and at-Tirmidhi. He (at-Tirmidhi) added another editor, “O Allah, make me among those who repent and make me including those who are cleansed.”

All readers! Writing using Arabic letters that I bold in the above hadith is a prayer that we are encouraged to read if we finish wudu. In the above hadith there is also information about the great rewards that we will receive in the afterlife if we live in the world, we perfect the wudu and read the prayer.

There are some things we need to know about the hadith above;

  1. The above hadith describes the prayer given by Prophet Muhammad to us so that we read every time we finish our wudu. The aim is that we get the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala and so that the prayer becomes the cause of the opening of the gates of Heaven and we can enter into Heaven from any door we want.
  2. The hadith explains that Heaven has eight doors. The lesson of explanation about the opening of the eight doors of Sugra is to emphasize how high the position of the person who always reads the prayer.
  3. Allah Ta’ala has told Prophet Muhammad about the reward that has been prepared for the believers. Prophet Muhammad also told the people that they should do it.
  4. The above hadith is an explanation, that wudu is an intermediary for purifying the outer body, while prayer is an intermediary for purifying the heart.

That is a brief explanation of the best information about wudu in Islam. May be useful!

See you again!
