Prophet Muhammad’s Marriage with Maimunah bint Harits

Hi all readers! In this article I will explain the strategy of connecting family relationships and strategies to strengthen the position of Islam behind the marriage of the Prophet Muhammad with Maimunah binti Harits. His wife’s full name is Maimunah binti Harits bin Hazn ibn Yahya ibn Haram bin Ruwaibiyah ibn Abdillah bin Hilal bin ‘Amir bin Sha’sha’ah bin Mu’awiyah ibn Bakr ibn Hawazan bin Manshur ibn Ikrimah bin Hafah ibn Qais bin ‘Ailan bin Mudlar. Her mother is Hindun. But another opinion said that her mother is was Khaulah bint Auf bin Zuhair bin Harits bin Hamathah bin Humair.
Maimunah bint Harits, before she became the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, was the wife of Mas’ud bin Umar bin Umair ats-Tsaqafi. The two of them then divorced. After that he became the wife of Abu Haram bin Abdil ‘Uzza bin Abi Qais. Her second husband died. She then married the Prophet Muhammad.
I did not find historical data that explained that the process of the Prophet Muhammad’s marriage with Maimunah binti Harits was dominated by war between Muslim forces and enemy forces. She himself embraced Islam, but she did not live in Medina, but in Mecca. He married her in 7 hijria when he went to Mecca to do Umrah. At that time, he was 60 years old. I also did not find historical data that explained his age when they were both married.
One historical data said that the marriage began after Abbas spoke with the Prophet Muhammad about Maimunah. The Prophet Muhammad then told Jakfar to go to propose to her. She gave the matter to Jakfar. Jakfar then married him with him. He gave him a dowry of 400 Dirhams. Another opinion said that the dowries is 500 dirhams.
Prophet Muhammad and his entourage were in Mecca for three days. In the morning on the fourth day of Suhail bin Amru and Huwaithib bin Abdul ‘Uzza came to see him who was talking to Sa’ad bin Ubadah. They both wanted him and his entourage to immediately leave Mecca. There was a little dialogue between them. Actually, he wanted to soften their hearts by telling them that he had married a woman from their class. He wanted to hold a small party and invite both of them and other people. But they both refused.
Prophet Muhammad and his entourage then left Mecca. When they arrived in Saraf, a village near Mecca, they paused. There was his family and Maimunah binti Harits, the woman he had just married. After that they proceeded to Medina.
Here, then what is the purpose of the Prophet Muhammad to marry Maimunah bint Harith?
As I have stated in the title of this article, that the purpose of the Prophet Muhammad to marry Maimunah was to connect his family relationship which had relations with her family. Historical data says that her sister was the wife of his uncle, Abbas, and her sister, Asma’ binti ‘Amis, was the wife of his uncle, Hamzah. I think he saw that it was better to connect the family relationship. The goal, besides that it can strengthen family relations, it can also strengthen the position of Islam.
After Maimunah binti Harits became the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, she was very obedient to the teachings of Islam. There is historical data that says that she was involved in the Tabuk war to help Muslim forces. She does not face the enemy directly. She is in charge of treating troops who are involved and providing drinks for them.
Maimunah bint Harits was the last woman married to the Prophet Muhammad. As an ordinary human, of course also has the end of life. During the reign of Yazid bin Mu’awiyah, precisely in 61 hijria, she died. At that time, she was 80 years old. Another opinion said that at that time she was 81 years old.
May Allah’s mercy and forgiveness be poured out on Maimunah bint Harith, the Mother of the believers. Amen!
I think that is enough for this article. May be useful! Amen!
See you again in the next article!
