Hi all readers! In the previous article I explained about the resurrection of all dead creatures from the grave. I have also explained that they will receive a trial from Allah for all the actions they have committed while living in the world. Now, in this article I will explain the prophet Muhammad’s lake that is needed by all beings in Mahsyar later.
If we read the previous article, surely, we already understand that someday in Mahsyar all beings will be judged by Allah. All beings, from the first created to the last time were created. We can imagine how crowded the atmosphere was at that time. At that moment the sun is right above our heads. Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alihi wa sallam said;
From al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad, he said, “I heard the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “On the Day of Judgment the sun will be brought closer to the creature until it is about a mile…” He (Messenger of Allah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) said, “So that people are tormented in their sweat according to their deeds (bad deeds). Among them is someone who sweats to his ankles, there is also someone who sweats to his knees, there is also someone whose sweat reaches his waist, there is also someone who sweat until drowning him. Messenger of Allah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam gave a signal by putting his hand to his mouth.” (The hadith is narrated by Muslim, 5112).
Of course, at that time all beings will feel thirsty and hungry, including us. But what is in our advantage is that we become the people of the prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. In the teachings of Islam there is an indication that he has a lake that will be visited by all his people in the future. We can see information about that in the hadith below;
Allah’s Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “The letter has been sent down to me.” He then read, “In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful; Surely, We have given you Kausar Surely your enemy is the one who shall be without posterity . Then he said, “Do you know what al-Kautsar is?” We then answered, “Allah and His Messenger know better.” He then said, “That is the lake that Allah has promised me. On it there is a lot of goodness. That is the lake that will be visited by my people on the Day of Judgment.” (The hadith is narrated by Muslim, 612).
The information about the lake can be found in the two hadith below;
The Prophet (Muhammad) sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam; Extent of my ear throughout one month’s journey, the water is whiter than milk, it smells more fragrant than misik oil, the cup is like a star in the sky. He who drinks from him will not be thirsty forever. (The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari, 6121).
From Abu Dharr, he said, “I said, “O Messenger of Allah, how many cups are there in the lake?” He replied, “For the sake of the Essence that Muhammad’s soul is in his power, the number of cups is more than the number of stars and slow -pelanet in the sky. Keep in mind! Indeed, at the bright night the stars glow with a cup from Heaven. Whoever drinks from the lake, he will not feel thirsty. The extent of the lake is like the length of the distance between Amman and Aylah (a city in the bay ‘Aqobah, Jordan). The water color is whiter than milk and it feels more mans than honey.”” (The hadith is narrated by Muslim, 4262).
Actually, there are still many hadiths that explain the lake of the prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. But the two hadiths above are enough for general knowledge. From the two hadiths above we can conclude a number of things as follows;
1. The vast lake of the Prophet Muhammad sallalla all alaihi wa sallam was a month-long journey, or the distance between Amman and Aylah (a city in the bay of Aqobah, Jordan).
2. The color of lake water is whiter than milk.
3. The smell of lake water is like oil misik.
4. The taste of lake water is sweeter than honey.
5. Many cups will be used to drink like the number of stars and cycles in the sky.
6. People who have drunk water from the lake will not feel thirsty anymore. If we want to drink water from the lake of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam in Mahsyar later, then there are some things we must do;
First; we must hold fast to the Qur’an and the hadith of the prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. We must make both of them a handle on life.
From Abu Hurairah radliyallaahu ‘anhu, that the prophet (Muhammad) sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Indeed I have left two things to all of you, you will not get lost after you practice the teachings that are in both things; kitaabullah (the Qur’an) and my sunnah (my hadith). Both will not separate until the two meets in my lake.” (The hadith is narrated by al-Bazzar, 8993, al-‘Uqaili, 2/250, Ibn ‘Addi, 4/69, ad-Daruquthni, 4/245, and al -Hakim, 4321).
Second; we must not help the ruler to do tyranny, we also cannot justify their tyranny.
From Ka’ab bin ‘Ajrah, that the prophet (Muhammad) sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said to him, “May Allah protect you from the leadership of fools.” He (Ka’ab bin ‘Ajrah) said, “What is the leadership of people – fool?” He (the prophet Muhammad) replied, “The leaders after me who did not seek guidance with my instructions and did not follow my sunnah. Whoever justifies their lies and helps them commit their tyranny, then they are not my class and I am not their group, they will not come to my ear. Whoever does not justify their lies and does not help them commit their tyranny, then they belong to my class and I am including their group, they will come to my lake.” (An-Nawawi, Syarhu Shahiihi Muslim, 3/2232, 14441).
Third; we must be patient in facing the hardships of living in the world and inviting others to do the same.
From Anas bin Malik, that the prophet (Muhammad) sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said to him, “After my death you will see the things that you deny until you meet Allah and His Messenger in the lake.” (This hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari, 3147, and Muslim, 1845).
Fourth; we must always be holy by performing ablution (wudhu).
From Hudzifah radliyallaahu ‘anhu, that the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said when calling the lake, ‘For the sake of the One whose soul is in His power. Really, I will take care of it from other people (other than my people) as well as someone who keeps his hands from other people’s camels. They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, will you recognize us?” He replied, “Yes! You will come to me with your face, two wrists and white feet, watering ablution water, which is not owned by anyone other than you.” (The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari, 2206).
That is a brief explanation of our theme this time. May we be among those who can drink water from the lake of the Prophet Muhammad! Amen!
I think that is enough for this article! May be useful! Amen!
See you again in the next article!
