Best Islamic Opinion: Prophet Muhammad’s Goodness to Non-Muslims ~ Hi all readers! In a number of previous articles, I have conveyed about the justice of the Prophet Muhammad in various aspects. In this article I will convey about his kindness to non-Muslims. As people who are aware of the importance of living peacefully of course we need the examples given to our predecessors, about how they can live peacefully with people of different faiths.
There is historical data narrated by Anas about the goodness of the Prophet Muhammad to non-Muslims. Anas said that the Prophet Muhammad had assistants who were Jewish. One day he was sick. The Prophet Muhammad, who knew about it, came to visit him. The Prophet then sat on the side of his head and said to him, “Converted into Islam!” He then saw his father who was by his side. His father then said to him, “Obey Abu al-Qasim (Prophet Muhammad)!” He then converted to Islam. The Prophet Muhammad then came out and said, “All praise is to Allah who has freed him from Hell.” (The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari (1290), at-Tirmidhi (2247), an-Nasa’i in as-Sunan al-Kubra (7500)).
All readers! Let’s reflect on the story above! We all know that at that time the Prophet Muhammad was the greatest leader in Medina. Although he has a status like he is still willing to employ male servants whose religion is different from his religion. One day the waiter was sick. He who in fact is the highest leader in Medina is willing to visit a servant who is Jewish.
If we see the incident in the current context, how many presidents in the world are willing to visit their aides who are sick? Maybe the president would be so busy that he didn’t have time to visit his ailing maid, or maybe he would have his staff visit the maid.
But that is different from what the Prophet Muhammad did. As a Messenger of Allah, of course he had a lot of activity, especially at that time religious authority could not be separated from political authority. But in the midst of his busy life he took time to come to his servants and he still hoped that his aides were willing to convert to Islam.
The efforts of the Prophet Muhammad finally paid off. His greatness was able to open the heart of his assistants and assistant’s father, so his servants were willing to convert to Islam. He is also very happy with that.
All readers! What the Prophet Muhammad had done was in accordance with what was ordered by Allah Taala;
Allah does not forbid you respecting those who have not made war against you on account of (your) religion, and have not driven you forth from your homes, that you show them kindness and deal with them justly; surely Allah loves the doers of justice. (Al-Mumtahinah ; 8).
All readers! That is a brief explanation of Prophet Muhammad’s goodness to non-Muslims. Actually, there are still many examples of the goodness of the Prophet Muhammad to non-Muslims. But one example that I have delivered is enough to prove that.
I think that is enough for this article. Hopefully we can imitate what has been exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad. Amen!
See you again in the next article!
