Prophet Muhammad’s Advice About Fasting in Ramadan

Prophet Muhammad’s Advice About Fasting in Ramadan ~ Hi all readers! In this article, I will explain the Prophet Muhammad’s words to Ali bin Abi Talib about fasting in Ramadan. Yup! As we know, Ramadan will come soon. There are many features in it. In that month we are required to fast for one month. We can see the obligation to fast in the verses of the Qur’an and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad below;

O you who believe! fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may guard (against evil). (Al-Baqarah [2]; 183).

The month of Ramadan is that in which the Qur’an was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein, and whoever is sick or upon a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days; Allah desires ease for you, and He does not desire for you difficulty, and (He desires) that you should complete the number and that you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you and that you may give thanks. (Al-Baqarah [2]; 185).

From Abdullah bin Umar radliyallaahu ‘anhumaa, he said, “The Messenger of Allah shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Islam is built on five things; a testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, perform prayers, pay zakat, fast in the month of Ramadan, and go on Hajj.” (The hadith narrated by al-Bukhari (8) and Muslim (16)).

From Aisha radliyallaahu ‘anhaa, she (she) said, “The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Whoever has died and he has the obligation to fast, his family must fast to replace his fast.” (The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari (1952) and Muslim (1147)).

The words of the Prophet Muhammad to Ali bin Abi Talib which I meant above are as follows;

“He (Prophet Muhammad) shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “Whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan and knows things that are forbidden and lies, then the Merciful God (Allah) will bless him and he will surely get Heaven.” [The point is, that he will definitely enter Heaven].

“O Ali! Whoever fasts for 6 days in Shawwal after fasting in the month of Ramadan, then Allah will record the reward of fasting for one year for him.”
