Obligation to be Humanistic to the Actors of Crime

Hi readers! In the previous article we discussed the false news about Aisha bint Abu Bakr, one of the wives of the Prophet Muhammad. In the article we know the attitude of Aisha when facing problems. In this article I will convey about the attitude of the Prophet Muhammad and Abu Bakr when there was a testimony from the verse of the Qur’an which explained the status of Aisha who was innocent.
Of course, it is natural that the Prophet Muhammad as Aisha’s husband and Abu Bakr as Aisha’s father were angry if she was slandered like that. Instincts as ordinary humans emerge. But their anger is still reasonable. They do not express anger arbitrarily. It was proven that after clearly knowing the root of the problem, the Prophet Muhammad immediately told his companions to punish whip eighty times for those who spread the hoax. The punishment is in the form of lashes of up to eighty times because the scattered slander accuses her of committing adultery. This punishment is in accordance with what was stipulated in the Qur’an. Allah Ta’ala said;

And those who accuse free women then do not bring four witnesses, flog them, (giving) eighty stripes, and do not admit any evidence from them ever; and these it is that are the transgressors. (An-Nur [24]: 4).
The people who were subjected to the sentence were Hamnah binti Jahsy, Misthah bin Atsatsah and Hisan bin Tsabit.
In this context the Prophet Muhammad carried out his duties as a Prophet. That’s why the punishment he gave them was whip.
As for Abu Bakr, who daily provided Misthah bin Atsatsah, after the incident Abu Bakr stopped supporting him because he was found to be known to be involved in the making and dissemination of false news. But Abu Bakr’s attitude did not last long. After a while Allah Almighty verseQuran forbids such an attitude;

And let not those of you who possess grace and abundance swear against giving to the near of kin and the poor and those who have fled in Allah´s way, and they should pardon and turn away. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (An-Nur [24]: 22).
After hearing the verse Abu Bakr said, “Yes, we will carry out the commands of Allah Ta’ala this, O Messenger of Allah.” Abu Bakr then provided Misthah again.
All readers! If we look at the information above and the information in the previous article, we will understand that even though the victim of defamation, humanly speaking, has the right to give any punishment to the perpetrator, as long as the sentence does not conflict with the law, Islam teaches that the sentence does not damage the human values that should be maintained. In this series of false news, Abu Bakr has the absolute right to revoke social assistance which is routinely given to Mistah. Our common sense can accept that. But Islam teaches another attitude; as much as possible the victims of crime must be humanistic to the perpetrators of crime, of course with a note that there are no negative consequences that will arise later on. This is one of the Islamic humanism which may be rarely known by many people. Hopefully we can practice it!
I think that is enough for this article. May be useful! Amen!
See you again in the next article!
