عن مطرف بن عبد الله بن الشخير عن أبيه قال ؛ رأيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي وفي صدره أزيز كأزيز المرجل من البكاء . أخرجه الخمسة إلا ابن ماجه
From Mutharrif bin Abdillah bin Ash-Shikhkhhir of his father, he said, “I once saw the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam praying and in his chest, there was a crying sound like the sound of boiling water in a pot.” The hadith is narrated by five people except Ibn Majah (Ahmad, Abu Daud, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa’i).
There are some important things related to the hadith above that we need to know;
First; The majority of legal experts argue, that if someone cries out of fear of Allah while he is praying, then the crying cannot ruin his prayer.
Second; Ash-Shafi’I said, that if there are two letters other than the letters of the sentence that must be read in prayer, then the crying can damage the prayer despite his crying out of fear of Allah Ta’ala.
Third; They also disagree about crying not because of fear of Allah. Malik said, if the crying is silent, then the crying does not have any effect on the prayer, but if the cry is accompanied by a sound, if it is done intentionally, then it can destroy prayer completely. But if it is due to forgetting, then if the crying is a lot, then the crying can damage the prayer, but if the crying is only a little, then it cannot damage the prayer. Ahmad said, if there are two letters that appear because of the crying, if the two letters sounded clear, then it could damage the prayer, if that did not sound clear, then it could not damage the prayer. Abu Hanifah said, if the cry was due to illness or disaster, then it could damage prayer, because it was a sign that the person could not accept Allah’s destiny.
