One thing is certain, that the 8 Islamic learning for new converts that I will explain in this article are not only for new converts. The point is, that these 8 things are general knowledge that all Muslims should know. Why is that? The answer is because all Muslims should know that and do that as long as they are Muslims.
The 8 islamic learning for new converts that I will explain in this article are as follows:
- What is Islam?
- Why is Islam Important?
- How to Convert to Islam?
- How to Be a Good Muslim?
- What Are the Obligations in Islam?
- What Are the Recommendations in Islam?
- What are the prohibitions in Islam?
- What are the things that are allowed in Islam (Mubah)?
What is Islam?
If you want to know what is Islam? So the answer: Islam is the religion brought by the Prophet Muhammad. The source of Islam is Allah, the Almighty Lord of the universe.
Prophet Muhammad accepted Islam from Allah through the angel Gabriel. The point is that the angel Gabriel is the mediator between Allah and the Prophet Muhammad. The Angel Gabriel brought revelations from Allah to give to the Prophet Muhammad. The revelation is the Koran.
Thus, if we want to know what and how specific Islamic teachings are, then the first reference we have to read is the Koran. In general, the Koran is a collection of the words of Allah to the Prophet Muhammad about what Muslims should know. In it there is an explanation of what Muslims should do, what they should not do, what they can do, the stories of the Prophets before the Prophet Muhammad, the stories of the Last Day, and so on.
So, Islam is a religion that comes from Allah. Islam is a religion that complements other religions that come from Allah, brought by the Prophets before the Prophet Muhammad.
Why is Islam Important?
Maybe one important thing that always becomes someone’s question before he becomes a Muslim, or even a Muslim, is: why is Islam important? This question is very important because it relates to the urgency of being a Muslim.
If we want to know why Islam is important, then we must first understand that one of the main purposes of Islam was to perfect the religions that came from Allah that were brought by the Prophets before the Prophet Muhammad.
Apart from that, we also have to understand the meaning of the sentence, “perfecting the religions that come from Allah that were brought by the Prophets before the Prophet Muhammad”. This sentence gives us the understanding that the previous religions were not yet perfect. Islam came to complete it all.
So, one answer to the question “why is Islam important?” is because Islam is a religion of perfection. Islam came to complete the teachings of other religions that came from Allah.
How to Convert to Islam?
One thing that is certain if you want to convert to Islam is that you have to testify that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. In addition, you are also required to believe it until you die. You can’t deny it.
In Islam, the testimony that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, is called “Shahada”. So, everyone who wants to convert to Islam and become a Muslim must say the Shahada sentence. We can analogize Shahada as the first door that must be entered to become a Muslim. Thus, if someone does not say Shahada, then he does not convert to Islam, he is not a Muslim.
How to Be a Good Muslim?
Being a good Muslim is the desire of everyone to convert to Islam. It is true that after we say Shahada, we are Muslims. But there are still many things that we must know and we must do to become good Muslims.
The definition of a good Muslim is a Muslim who is able to carry out all of his obligations and suggestions as a Muslim. Besides that, a good Muslim is a Muslim who is able to abandon all the prohibitions in Islam. In general, we can understand the term “good Muslim” as such.
Thus, before we become good Muslims, we must understand what are the obligations in Islam, the prohibitions in Islam, the recommendations in Islam, the things that are allowed in Islam.
What Are the Obligations in Islam?
Actually, there are many obligations in Islam. But in general, we can understand these obligations into three:
One: the obligation to believe in Allah, the angels of Allah, the messengers of Allah, the books of Allah, the Day of Judgment, the decisions of Allah that are good for us and those that are not good for us.
These are all things we have to believe. In Islam, these six things are the foundations of a Muslim’s faith.
Two: we have to say Shahada, perform the obligatory prayers five times a day (Fajr prayer, Dhuhr prayer, Asr prayer, Maghrib prayer, and Isha prayer), pay Zakat, fast in the month of Ramada, perform Hajj if we are able to do so.
Three: we must do good to everyone.
These are some examples of obligations in Islam. In other words, if we don’t do that, then we sin.
What Are the Recommendations in Islam?
What is meant by advice in Islam is that things are very good if we do that, but we will not sin if we don’t do that.
There are many kinds of advice in Islam. Some examples are Qabliyah prayer, Ba’diyah prayer, Tahajud prayer, reading the Koran, giving alms, smiling, and so on.
What are the prohibitions in Islam?
What is meant by prohibitions in Islam are things that we are not allowed to do. If we do that, then we will sin.
There are many types of prohibitions in Islam. Some examples are stealing, adultery, drunkenness, destroying public facilities, corruption, and so on
What are the things that are allowed in Islam (Mubah)?
What is meant by things that are allowed in Islam are things that if we do it or don’t do it, then we will not sin and get no reward.
There are many kinds of things obtained in Islam. Some examples are eating, drinking, sleeping, and so on.
