Islam is a Religion of Peace

Before discussing more about the values of peace in the religion of Islam as well as how to implement it, which it became the main goal made this blog, in this first post I would like to invite the readers to recognize at once believe, that Islam is a religion that brings peace for the people human, who want to practice his teachings of course.
Broadly speaking, we can see the purpose of the realization of peace on earth that became the main goal of the Islamic religion down to the Prophet Muhammad shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam in the word of Allah Ta’ala;
“And We have not sent you but as a mercy to the worlds.” (Al-Anbiyaa’ [21]; 107).
There is a difference of opinion among muslims scholars about the meaning of mercy in the above verse. Ibn Jarir ath-Tabari said when interpreting the above verse, that in the verse in verse Allah Ta’ala as if to say to the Prophet Muhammad, “We have not sent you, O Muhammad, to our creatures except as a mercy to the servant whom you have sent to him.”
However, there are differences of opinion among scholars on the meaning of the universe (creature) in the verse, does the universe (creature) there include believers and unbelievers? Or just people who believe only? Some of them say that the meaning of the universe (creature) there includes the believers and the unbelievers. They argue like that with the words of Ibn Abbas;
“Anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day, is appointed to him mercy in the world and the Hereafter. But anyone who does not believe in Allah and His Messenger, the form of mercy for them is not overwritten by the calamities that befell the former people, as they are all drowned or buffeted by big waves.”
As for some other takwil experts argue, that what is meant by the universe (creature) in the verse is only the believer, not including the unbelievers.
Of the two opinions above, the correct opinion is the first, which is based on the words of Abbas. It is because Allah Ta’ala has sent the Prophet Muhammad shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam as a mercy to the universe (beings), both believers and unbelievers.
We can see the universality of mercy behind the Prophet Muhammad. In the word of Allah Ta’ala;
And when they said: O Allah! if this is the truth from Thee, then rain upon us stones from heaven or inflict on us a painful punishment [32] But Allah was not going to chastise them while you were among them, nor is Allah going to chastise them while yet they ask for forgiveness [33]. (Al-Anfaal [32-33).
In addition, we can see another explanation of the purpose of the dispensation of the Prophet Muhammad Shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam hadith, when he said;
“Verily I am sent to complete the noble character.” (The hadith is narrated by Ahmad, al-Musnad, 8729, Ibnu Sa’ad, ath-Thabaqât, 468, al-Bukhari, al-Adab, 273, al-Hakim, al-Mustadrak, 4187, and al-Baihaqi, as-Sunan al-Kubrâ, 19143).
If we look closely at the verses of Quran and hadith above, then we will know and believe, that the goal in bringing Islam and the sending of the Prophet Muhammad shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam is to realize mercy in this universe.
Here, I want to raise a problematic question that often makes a person misunderstand the religion of Islam, what about the acts of radicalism in the name of Islam and done by the Muslims? Questions like this are reasonable made by a person because in fact it does happen and it is against the main objective in bringing Islam and in the Prophet Muhammad shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.
To answer the above question, we must first be able to distinguish between religion and understanding of religion; Between Islam and the understanding of Islam; Between Jews and understanding of Jews; Between Christianity and understanding of Christianity. There is a huge difference between these things, which fall into the category of religion (Islam, Judaism, Christianity) should we believe to be good things, because it comes from the Lord of the universe. The understanding of these three religions is derived from the human understanding, which may be true and may be wrong. The nature of this religion is sacral, while understanding of religion is not sacred. Because of the absence of sacrality in the human understanding of religion, the misconceptions of understanding find space to enter. It is from these mistakes that radical behavior emerges which consequently even distances the understanding and behavior of the original values and status of a religion.
May be by looking at the brief description of the paragraph above we already know how radicalism in Islam. And, I think that is also true in the practice of other religions. In addition, misunderstanding and understanding of religion is right and spreads from mouth to mouth and from the brain to the brain through teaching, religious lectures, institutions, mass media, and so on. I think such a phenomenon is not only a problem of religion, but also a humanitarian problem, because inevitably the victims are human beings. It becomes our common duty to deal with it.
The sample of understanding of religion, which I mean in this context is the religion of Islam, which is both true and practice can be seen in the hadith of Prophet Muhammad shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam below;
“From Imran bin Hushain ra. That there was a woman from Juhainah meeting the Prophet – she was pregnant because of adultery – and said, “O prophet of Allah, I must be punished, do the punishment to me.” Then the Messenger of Allah called his guardian and said, “Be kind to her, when she gives birth, bring the baby to me.” So, it was done. After that, the woman was sentenced, the Prophet ordered that the woman’s clothes be added and tied tightly to her body, then stoned. Then the Messenger of Allah pray for her. Umar said, “Did you pray for her, O Prophet Allah, even though she had committed adultery?” He replied, “She truly repented if her repentance was divided between 70 residents of Medina, surely they would be enough. O Omar, do you get someone more than surrender himself because of Allah?”
By looking at the above hadith then we will know, that in the implementation of Islamic law must see the benefits and dangers. In the above hadith, it is explained that the Prophet Muhammad shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. Suspend the execution of stoning laws upon woman who became pregnant due to adultery, until she gave birth to her baby, whereas adultery is a major sin in Islam. If at that time the adulterous woman was punished before giving birth, then the innocent baby in her womb would also die. He does not want that. Allah Ta’ala say;
Whoever goes aright, for his own soul does he go aright; and whoever goes astray, to its detriment only does he go astray: nor can the bearer of a burden bear the burden of another, nor do We chastise until We raise a messenger.” (Al-Israa’ [17] ;15).
Thus, a brief explanation of the status of Islam as a religion of peace that I want to convey in the first article in this blog. May the reader have understood the outline of the purpose in making this blog. In the following articles I will describe a great deal about Islamic values for the peace of mankind.
