Good Talking and Bad Talking According to Islam

Religion of Love: Good Talking and Bad Talking ~ Hi all readers! In this article I will explain about virtues of good talking and dangers of bad talking in Islamic teachings. We all already know, that what is meant by good talking is talking with certain words that can make other people happy, or at least that can make other people accept reality. While what is meant by bad talking is talking with certain words that can make other people angry or harmed. In Islamic teachings there is a special discussion about these two things.

Islamic attention about good talking and bad talking can we see in the verse of the Qur’an and some of the hadith below;

Allah does not love the public utterance of hurtful speech unless (it be) by one to whom injustice has been done; and Allah is Hearing, Knowing. (An-Nisaa’ [4]; 148).

From Abu Hurairah radliyallaahu ‘anhu, from the Prophet (Muhammad) sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, he said, “Whoever believes in Allah and Last Day (Judgment Day), then he must say good or better he is silent.”

From Abu Musa radliyallaahu, he said, “I once said, “O Messenger of Allah, who are the most important Muslims?” He replied, “The person who is the other Muslim has survived his tongue and his hand.”

From ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amir radliyallaahu ‘anhu, he said, “O Messenger of Allah, what is salvation? “He replied, “Control your tongue, expand your house, and cry for your mistakes.”

From Abu Hurairah radliyallaahu ‘anhu, “Allah’s Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was once asked about something that could best put someone into Heaven. He then replied, “Faith in Allah and good ethics.” He was once asked about something that could best put someone in Hell. He then answered, “Mouth and vital organs (penis and vagina).” The hadith is narrated by at-Tirmidhi (2400), Ahmad (2/442), Ibn Hibban (2/224).

The Prophet Muhammad once advised Ali bin Abi Talib;

“O Ali! Allah does not create a body part in humans that is better than oral. He can enter Heaven and enter into Hell (hence) – words in brackets are my addition to facilitate translation and understanding in the text. Then hold it back! actually it’s a fierce dog.”

All readers! If we have understood the brief explanation above, then of course we can conclude a number of things as follows;

One; Islam prohibits someone from bad talking, even the verses of the Qur’an above explain, that Allah does not like it.

Two; People who believe in Allah and the End Times (Doomsday) must speak good words. If he can’t do that, then it’s better to be quiet.

Three; The most important Muslim people are Muslim who do not hurt others by his words and his hands.

Four; One sign of safety is if someone is able to guard his mouth, so he doesn’t hurt others with it.

Five; Only people who are tyrannized may say bad words, and that should not be excessive.

That is a brief explanation of good talking and bad talking. May be useful! Amen!
