Believing in Angels; A Best Explanation

Best Islamic Tolerance: Believing in Angels ~ Hi all readers! In the previous article I explained how to believe in Allah Ta’ala. In this article I will explain how to believe in angels. In Islamic teachings, believing in them is the second pod of believing.

You must know that angels are creatures that Allah Ta’ala has created from light. They have a very large, strong physical, and can change shape. They always obey Allah and never oppose Him. They have no sex; they are not male and not female. They don’t eat, don’t drink, never feel bored and tired, not married. Only Allah Ta’ala knows their number.

This understanding of the creation of angels from light is in accordance with the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad;

From Aisha radliyallaahu ‘anhaa, she said, “The Messenger of Allah say, “Angels are created looking for light, Jinn is created from fire, and Adam was created from what has been characterized (explained) to you.”

Creation of Angel of Death and Death According to Islam

The characteristics of the Angels in the explanation above can be seen in a number of verses below;

O you who believe! save yourselves and your families from a fire whose fuel is men and stones; over it is angels stern and strong, they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them, and do as they are commanded. (At-Tahriim [66]; 6).

The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him. (An-Najm [53]; 5).

The processor of strength, having an honorable place with the Lord of the Dominion. (At-Takwiir [81]; 20).

And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. (At-Takwiir [81]; 23).

I need to say here, that in fact there are still many verses of the Koran that can explain the angelic figure. But I think some of the verses above are enough to prove the accuracy of the understanding of angels as I have said above.

Basics of Obligation to Believe in Angels

As I have said above, that in the teachings of Islam, having faith in angels is one of the basic beliefs. One cannot be a believer if he does not acknowledge their existence and everything related to them, such as nature, duties, and so on. The obligation to believe in them is in accordance with what has been said by Allah Ta’ala;

It is not righteousness that you turn your faces towards the East and the West, but righteousness is this that one should believe in Allah and the last day and the angels and the Book and the prophets, and give away wealth out of love for Him to the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer and the beggars and for (the emancipation of) the captives, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate; and the performers of their promise when they make a promise, and the patient in distress and affliction and in time of conflicts– these are they who are true (to themselves) and these are they who guard (against evil). (Al-Baqarah [02]; 177).

The messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers; they all believe in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers; We make no difference between any of His messengers; and they say: We hear and obey, our Lord! Thy forgiveness (do we crave), and to Thee is the eventual course. (Al-Baqarah [02]; 285).

O you who believe! believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Book which He has revealed to His Messenger and the Book which He revealed before; and whoever disbelieves in Allah and His angels and His messengers and the last day, he indeed strays off into a remote error. (An-Nisaa’ [04]; 136).

The information about the obligation to believe in the Angels of Allah Ta’ala is as explained in the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad;

“One day when we were on the side of the Messenger of Allah, suddenly came to us a man whose clothes were so white, his hair so black, his trip could not be seen until he sat down in front of him and rested his knees on both His knees and put his palms on his thighs. He then said, “O Muhammad! Tell me about Islam.” Messenger of Allah shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said. “Islam is you testify that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, you impose prayer, you issue Zakat, you fast in Ramadan, you perform Hajj if you are able to travel.” He then said, “You Right.” We were amazed at him, he asked him and confirmed him. He then said, “Tell me about the believe!” He then said, “You believe in Allah, His books, His angels, His messengers, the last day, and you believe in fate, good and bad.” He then said, “You are right.” He then said (again), “Tell me about Ihsan!” He then said, “You worship Allah as if you saw Him, if you do not see Him He said, “Tell me of the Day of Judgment!” He then said, “The man who is asked is not more understanding than the one who asks.” He then said, “Tell me of his signs (The Day of Judgment)!” He said, “Among them if a servant has given birth to his master and if you see a poor person (who is not wearing footwear), dressed in rags, as a goat herd is already capable, Lam grandeur of the building.” Then off the man earlier. I calmed down for a moment then He asked me, “O Umar, you know who asked that?” I replied, “Allah and His Messenger know better.” He then said, “He is Gabriel coming to you teach about your religion.”

After we pay attention to several verses of Qu’ran and the hadith above, then we certainly know and believe that believing in angels is an obligation that determines the truth of our faith.

The Ways to Believe in Angels

After we know the understanding of angels and the basics of the obligation to believe in them in the teachings of Islam, then now we will explain about how to believe in them. In my personal opinion, the discussion on this matter is very important because a good job will be good, or even better, if done in a good way, the right way. Likewise, with faith in them.

Broadly speaking, having faith in angels must be done with seven things;

One; Confess and justify the existence of angels.

Two; Believe that the number of Angels is very large, which no one knows about except Allah Ta’ala.

From the hadith of Malik bin Sha’sha’ah radliallaahu ‘anhu, from the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallah, he said, “Then I was taken up to Baitul Makmur. Then I asked, “O Gabriel! What is this?” He then replied, “This is Baitul Makmur. In every day seventy thousand Angels will enter it. If they have come out, then they will not enter it again, because that is the last time, they entered it…”

The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “On that day Hell will be brought with seventy thousand ropes and each rope will be drawn by seventy thousand angels.”

Three; Recognize the glory and position of the Angels who are very great.

Four; Recognize that even though they are very obedient servants, their majesty and position beside Allah Ta’ala is not the same.

Five; Not hostile to the Angels and believe that with Allah’s permission they can help people who need help.

Six; Convinced that angels are creatures of Allah who do not have any power and power to create things, organize them and change them. They include the army of Allah who does everything by His will.

Seven; Believe in the truth of the angels that have been clearly stated in the Quran and the hadith, such as Gabriel, Michael, Israfil and so forth.

All readers! That is a brief explanation of believing in Angels. May be useful! Amen!
