Allah’s Messengers and the Way of Believing in Them

Straight to! Okay? In this article I will explain about the Messengers of Allah and how to believe in them. As Muslims we must know about this, because believing in them is the third foundation of the faith.
But before I want to say, that there is a difference between “Prophet of Allah” and “Messenger of Allah”. Muslim scientists differ on the meaning of the two terms. I will not express that dissent here. I will only say, that the strongest opinion is that which says, “the Prophet” is a person who has been given revelation by Allah, of which he and the believers (those who believe) are ordered to do it. “The Messenger” is a person who has been given revelation by Allah and sent to deliver a message to a people who oppose the religion of Allah.
We can see information about the above in several verses below;
And certainly, Yusuf came to you before with clear arguments, but you ever remained in doubt as to what he brought; until when he died, you said: Allah will never raise a messenger after him. Thus, does Allah cause him to err who is extravagant, a doubter. (Al-Mukmiin [40]; 34).
Surely We have revealed to you as We revealed to Nuh, and the prophets after him, and We revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and Isa and Ayub and Yunus and Haroun and Sulaiman and We gave to Dawood [163] And (We sent) messengers We have mentioned to you before and messengers we have not mentioned to you; and to Musa, Allah addressed His Word, speaking (to him) [164]. (An-Nisaa’ [04]; 163-164).
I have to say here, that sometimes a person has the above two statuses, so he becomes a Prophet of Allah and a Messenger of Allah. Allah said;
And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet, but when he desired, the Shaitan made a suggestion respecting his desire; but Allah annuls that which the Shaitan casts, then does Allah establish His communications, and Allah is Knowing, Wise. (Al-Hajj [22]; 52).
How to Believe in Allah’s Messengers?
After we talk about the difference between “Allah’s Prophet” and “Allah’s Messenger”, then the next problem is, how do you believe in them?
Broadly speaking, the way to believe in the Messenger of Allah can be done by firmly believing that Allah has sent a messenger to every people so that they only worship Allah and not associate partners with others; that all of these Messenger of Allah are good, noble, fearful of Allah, and can be trusted; that all of Allah’s messengers are in the real truth because they come with instructions from Allah; that as long as all the teachings that they bring are only one, only aggravates Allah, it’s just that the syariah they carry is different; that all the messengers of Allah have conveyed all the teachings they brought; that all Allah’s messengers are human in general, except that in doing their assignments, they always get help from Allah.
The information I submit in the paragraph above can be proven by looking at a number of verses of the Quran below;
And certainly, We raised in every nation a messenger saying: Serve Allah and shun the Shaitan. So, there were some of them whom Allah guided and there were others against whom error was due; therefore, travel in the land, then see what was the end of the rejecters. (An-Nahl [16]; 36).
They shall say: O woe to us! who has raised us up from our sleeping-place? This is what the Beneficent Allah promised and the messengers told the truth. (Yaasiiin [36]; 52).
And We will remove whatever of ill-feeling is in their breasts; the rivers shall flow beneath them and they shall say: All praise is due to Allah Who guided us to this, and we would not have found the way had it not been that Allah had guided us; certainly the messengers of our Lord brought the truth; and it shall be cried out to them that this is the garden of which you are made heirs for what you did. (Al-A’raaf [07]; 43).
Certainly, We sent Our messengers with clear arguments, and sent down with them the Book and the balance that men may conduct themselves with equity; and We have made the iron, wherein is great violence and advantages to men, and that Allah may know who helps Him and His messengers in the secret; surely Allah is Strong, Mighty. (Al-Hadiid [57]; 25).
And so forth…
The number of people who are status as Prophets of Allah and this Messenger of Allah is very large in number. However, what is mentioned in the Qur’an is only twenty-five people. They are the ones we have to believe. They are; Adam, Idris, Noah, Hud, Salih, Ibrahim, Lut, Ismael, Ishaq, Ya’qub, Yusuf, Ayyub, Dzul Kifli, Syuib, Yunus, Musa, Harun, Ilyas, Ilyasa’, David, Sulaiman, Zakaiyah, Yahya, Isa, Muhammad. We can find information about the names of their names in the verses of the Qur’an below;
And this was Our argument which we gave to Ibrahim against his people; We exalt in dignity whom We please; surely your Lord is Wise, Knowing [83] And We gave to him Ishaq and Yaqoub; each did We guide, and Nuh did We guide before, and of his descendants, Dawood and Sulaiman and Ayub and Yusuf and Haroun; and thus, do We reward those who do good (to others) [84] And Zakariya and Yahya and Isa and Ilyas; every one was of the good [85] And Ismail and Al-Yasha and Yunus and Lut; and every one We made to excel (in) the worlds [86]. (Al-An’aam [6]; 83-86).
And to Ad (We sent) their brother Hud. He said: O my people! serve Allah, you have no god other than Him; will you not then guard (against evil)? (Al-A’raaf [07]; 65).
And to Samood (We sent) their brother Salih. He said: O my people! serve Allah, you have no god other than Him; clear proof indeed has come to you from your Lord; this is (as) Allah’s she-camel for you– a sign, therefore leave her alone to pasture on Allah´s earth, and do not touch her with any harm, otherwise painful chastisement will overtake you. (Al-A’raaf [07]; 73).
And to Madyan (We sent) their brother Shu’aib. He said: O my people! serve Allah, you have no god other than Him; clear proof indeed has come to you from your Lord, therefore give full measure and weight and do not diminish to men their things, and do not make mischief in the land after its reform; this is better for you if you are believers. (Al-A’raaf [07]; 85).
Surely Allah chose Adam and Nuh and the descendants of Ibrahim and the descendants of Imran above the nations. (Ali Imran [03]; 33).
And Ismail and Idris and Zulkifl; all were of the patient ones. [Al-Anbiyaa’ [21]; 85).
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those with him are firm of heart against the unbelievers, compassionate among themselves; you will see them bowing down, prostrating themselves, seeking grace from Allah and pleasure; their marks are in their faces because of the effect of prostration; that is their description in the Taurat and their description in the Injeel; like as seed-produce that puts forth its sprout, then strengthens it, so it becomes stout and stands firmly on its stem, delighting the sowers that He may enrage the unbelievers on account of them; Allah has promised those among them who believe and do good, forgiveness and a great reward. (Al-Fath [48]; 29).
The rights of the Messengers of Allah that we must fulfill are five;
1. Justify the existence of the messengers of Allah and their teachings.
2. Accompanying the messengers of Allah, loving them, being careful not to make them angry, let alone hostile to them.
3. Believing that the Messengers of Allah are the main human beings.
4. Believing that the degree of Allah’s Messenger is not the same.
5. Read prayers for the Messenger of Allah.
Those are the five rights of the Messenger of Allah that we must fulfill. Hopefully with a brief description of the messengers of Allah and the way to believe in them above can help us to get a good understanding and faith. Amen.
Yup! I think that is enough for this article. See you again in the next article!
