Discover the Virtues of Reading Salawat on Friday: A Path to Forgiveness
The Virtues of Reading Salawat on Friday ~ Hi readers! In several previous articles, I have explained many aspects of Salawat, such as its importance, how it erases sins, and the virtue of writing Salawat in a book. In this article, I will discuss the virtues of reading Salawat on Friday. A Muslim can benefit enormously from reciting Salawat on this day, and it's essential for us to recognize this significance. That's why I wrote this article.
Before I delve deeper into the virtues of reading Salawat on Friday, I would like to mention that we can find explanations in various hadiths. However, I will not quote all the hadiths that address this topic. Instead, I will highlight three significant hadiths.
Hadith on the Virtues of Reading Salawat on Friday
The three hadiths regarding the virtues of reading Salawat on Friday are as follows:
The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, said, "Whoever reads Salawat to me on Friday a thousand times will not die until he sees his place in Heaven."
From Abu Dharr radliyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, said, 'Whoever reads Salawat to me on Friday, all his sins committed over the past two hundred years will be forgiven.'"
From Abu Hurairah radliyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, said, 'Reading Salawat to me is light on the Sirat (bridge to Heaven). Whoever reads Salawat to me on Friday eighty times, Allah will forgive all his sins committed over the past eighty years.'"
Conclusion
Dear Readers! If we understand the three hadiths mentioned above, we can conclude several important points:
- Reading Salawat is a ritual for washing away sins according to Islam.
- The conditions on the Sirat (the bridge to Heaven in Islam) are extremely dark, and Salawat can serve as a light to illuminate it.
- We are strongly encouraged to recite Salawat on Friday, as it can erase all our sins from over the years, as explained in the three hadiths.

I was particularly moved by the hadith stating that if you read Salawat a thousand times on Friday, you will not die before seeing your place in Heaven. This promise of being granted a glimpse of Heaven is incredibly motivating and encourages me to incorporate this practice into my weekly routine. The forgiveness of sins from the past two hundred years is another powerful reminder of how much grace and mercy Allah bestows on those who send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad.
Additionally, the hadith about reading Salawat eighty times on Friday to have one's sins from the past eighty years forgiven is awe-inspiring. The idea of reciting Salawat as a light on the Sirat gives me hope, knowing that this simple act can help illuminate the difficult path to Heaven.

The first hadith highlighting the promise of seeing one's place in Jannah by reciting Salawat a thousand times is incredibly motivating. It reminds us of the limitless mercy of Allah SWT and how simple acts of worship can bring us closer to Him. The second and third hadiths, focusing on the forgiveness of sins and the light on the Sirat, provide even more encouragement to make Salawat a regular practice, particularly on Fridays.
This article serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of nurturing our relationship with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through Salawat. It not only inspires readers to act but also reinforces the significance of seeking Allah's mercy and guidance.
