Generally, there's dirt on long nails, which can diminish their appearance. Many people feel uncomfortable if there's dirt on their nails. Cutting nails is a simple way to eliminate this dirt.

In Islam, there are numerous commands to maintain cleanliness, and I believe you are already aware of that. So, I won't go into further detail about that in this article.

  • Cutting nails helps Muslims protect their chastity from minor impurities

Hands are part of the body that frequently come into contact with various objects. We often use our hands for many activities, such as eating, drinking, touching items around us, and cleaning ourselves after using the restroom.

The problem arises if there are remnants of stool that stick to the nails after we clean ourselves. In Islam, feces are considered impure. It can be challenging to remove any leftover feces if our nails are long. Therefore, cutting your nails will make it easier to clean any remaining impurities.

That's a brief description of the benefits of cutting nails in Islam. As Muslims, we must understand this.

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِذَا أَنْتِ قَلَّمْتِ أَظْفَارَكِ فَابْدَئِي بِالْخِنْصَرِ، ثُمَّ الْوُسْطَى، ثُمَّ الْإِبْهَامِ، ثُمَّ الْبِنْصِرِ، ثُمَّ السَّبَّابَةِ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ يُورِثُ الْغِنَى

From Aisha (radliyallahu anha), she said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, 'When you cut your nails, begin by cutting the nails of your little finger, middle finger, thumb, ring finger, and index finger because it can bring you abundance.'"

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: الفِطْرَةُ خَمْسٌ: الخِتَانُ، وَالإِسْتِحْدَادُ، وَقَصُّ الشَّارِبِ، وَتَقْلِيْمُ الْأَظْفَارِ، وَنَتْفُ الآبَاطِ

From Abu Hurairah (radliyallahu anhu), the Prophet (Muhammad) (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "There are five aspects of fitrah: circumcision, removing pubic hair, cutting the mustache, cutting the nails, and tweezing the armpit hair."

عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: مِنَ الْفِطْرَةِ حَلْقُ العَانَةِ، وَتَقْلِيْمُ الأَظْفَارِ، وَقَصُّ الشَّارِبِ

From Ibn Umar (radliyallahu anhuma), the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "Among the aspects of fitrah are shaving the pubic hair, cutting nails, and trimming the mustache."

عَنِ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: عَشْرٌ مِنَ الْفِطْرَةِ: قَصُّ الشَّارِبِ، وَإِعْفَاءُ اللِّحْيَةِ، وَالسِّوَاكُ، وَاسْتِنْشَاقُ الْمَاءِ، وَقَصُّ الْأَظْفَارِ، وَغَسْلُ الْبَرَاجِمِ، وَنَتْفُ الْإِبْطِ، وَحَلْقُ العَانَةِ، وَانْتِقَاصُ الْمَاءِ

From Aisha (radliyallahu anha), she said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, 'There are ten aspects of fitrah: cutting the mustache, preserving the beard, using the siwak, rinsing the nose with water, cutting nails, washing the knuckles, tweezing the armpit hair, shaving the pubic hair, and cleaning oneself with water.'"

Before I provide you with an answer to that inquiry, I will quote the words of Imam Sulaiman al-Jamal in his book "Hasyiyatul Jamal" regarding this matter. Please consider the description below:

وَيُسَنُّ غَسْلُ رُؤُوسِ الْأَصَابِعِ بَعْدَ قَصِّ الْأَظْفَارِ لِمَا قِيلَ إنَّ الْحَكَّ بِهِ قَبْلَ الْغُسْلِ يُورِثُ الْبَرَصَ وَالْأَوْلَى فِي قَصِّهَا أَنْ يَكُونَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ أَوْ الْخَمِيسِ أَوْ الِاثْنَيْنِ

It is recommended to wash the fingertips after cutting the nails because some say that scraping them before washing can cause leprosy. The best days for cutting nails are Friday, Thursday, or Monday.
