Salawat Ibrahimiyah: The Ultimate Salawat for Prophet Muhammad ~ Hi, dear readers! In several previous articles, I have discussed various aspects of Salawat, such as the virtues of reading Salawat on Friday and the ability to wash away sins through Salawat. Additionally, I believe we are already aware that there are many Salawat that we can recite. In this article, I will focus on one of the best Salawat from the Prophet Muhammad: Salawat Ibrahimiyah.

Specifically, there are two important aspects of Salawat Ibrahimiyah that I will explain in this article. These two key points are as follows:

What Is Meant by Salawat Ibrahimiyah?

Before delving deeper into the content of Salawat Ibrahimiyah, I would like to clarify that Salawat Ibrahimiyah refers to the Salawat that includes the word “Ibrahim.” In general, we can understand Salawat Ibrahimiyah as a prayer for Allah to bestow mercy and blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad and his family, just as He granted grace and blessings to Prophet Ibrahim and his family.

The reason Salawat Ibrahimiyah is considered the best Salawat is that the Prophet Muhammad specifically endorsed it. He taught this Salawat to his companions (Sahabi), so we do not need to doubt its validity or significance.

Hadith About Salawat Ibrahimiyah

To be honest, there are many versions of Salawat Ibrahimiyah. However, according to one hadith, the text of Salawat Ibrahimiyah is as follows:

Imam Muslim narrated from Abu Laila. He said, "Ka'ab bin Ujrah met me and asked, ‘Will I give you a gift? Indeed, the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) came to us. We then said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, we already know how to greet you. But how should we send Salawat upon you?' He replied, ‘Say: O our Lord, give mercy to Muhammad and to Muhammad's family, as You have given mercy to Abraham's family. Verily, You are the Most Praiseworthy and Most Glorious God. O our Lord, give blessings to Muhammad and to Muhammad's family, as You have blessed Abraham's family. Surely, You are the Most Praiseworthy and the Most Glorious.'"

Dear readers! If you are unable to recognize the text of Salawat Ibrahimiyah in the above hadith, here it is:

"O our Lord, give mercy to Muhammad and to Muhammad's family, as You have given mercy to Abraham's family. Verily, You are the Most Praiseworthy and Most Glorious God. O our Lord, give blessings to Muhammad and to Muhammad's family, as You have blessed Abraham's family. Surely, You are the Most Praiseworthy and the Most Glorious."

As for the context of why the Prophet Muhammad explained this, it was because his companions (Sahabi) did not know how to say Salawat to him, especially when they were praying. The good news is that Salawat Ibrahimiyah is the Salawat that we always recite during our prayers, whether during the first Tashahud or the last Tashahud. This applies to both obligatory prayers, such as Dhuhr, Asr, and Maghrib, as well as Sunnah prayers (which are recommended), such as Qabliyah and Ba'diyah prayers.

The other versions of Salawat Ibrahimiyah are as follows:

"O our Lord, give mercy to Muhammad and to Muhammad's family, as You have given mercy to Abraham and his family. And give blessings to Muhammad and to Muhammad's family, as You have blessed Abraham and his family throughout the universe. Surely, You are the Most Praiseworthy and the Most Glorious."

Dear readers! That is a brief explanation of Salawat Ibrahimiyah, the best Salawat for Prophet Muhammad. Do you understand? If you have any questions, please ask!

I think that's all for this article. May it be useful. Ameen!
