The Meaning of Surah An-Nas ~ Hi, dear readers! Do you know what Surah An-Nas is? It is the last surah in the order of the surahs in the Quran. We can use this surah as a prayer to protect ourselves from the interference of evil beings, such as wicked humans and demons. However, we must understand the meaning of the surah. That's why I wrote this article, so you only need to read it until the end!
The Surah An-Nas is brief, containing only six verses, twenty words, and ninety-nine letters.
The Verses of Surah An-Nas
The verses of Surah An-Nas are as follows:
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind [1] The Sovereign of mankind [2] The God of mankind [3] From the evil of the retreating whisperer [4] Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind [5] From among the jinn and mankind [6]." (An-Nas [114]; 1-6).
The Meaning of Surah An-Nas
(قُلۡ) This means, "Say, O Messenger of Allah's most noble (Prophet Muhammad)!" It's important to note that while there are many phrases like this in the Quran, the person referred to is the Prophet Muhammad. However, this also applies to all Muslims, both men and women, such as the command to pray, and so on.
(أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلنَّاسِ) This means, "I take refuge in the God who cares for the good of humans and meets all their needs." The word "God" in this verse refers to Allah, the One who governs all humanity.
(مَلِكِ ٱلنَّاسِ) This means that Allah is the King who rules over all humans. Do you understand the power and authority of a king? At least we can imagine it to grasp the meaning of this phrase. However, Allah's power and authority far exceed that of any king.
(إِلَٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ) This means that Allah is the God of all humans. Therefore, all humans must worship Him and not anyone else.
(مِن شَرِّ ٱلۡوَسۡوَاسِ) This sentence connects to the previous ones. It means, "I take refuge in Allah from the evil of Satan."
(ٱلۡخَنَّاسِ) This word describes Satan. It means, "[from Satan's evil] who constantly disturbs humans when they remember their God."
(ٱلَّذِي يُوَسۡوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ) This sentence further describes the previous one. It means, "Satan always whispers in the hearts of humans."
(مِنَ ٱلۡجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ) This sentence also provides further description of the previous one. It means that those who whisper evil into the hearts of people are both Satan and humans.
Dear readers! That is a brief explanation of the meaning of Surah An-Nas. After reading this explanation, we should understand that the evil whispers from Satan and humans can lead to harmful thoughts. That is why we are encouraged to seek Allah's protection from their bad whispers. Do you understand? If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
I think that's enough for this article. I hope it is useful! Ameen!
