It is one of the required readings in prayer, and without it, our prayers are invalid—except for those who genuinely cannot recite it. Many Muslim scholars have discussed the meaning of Surah Al-Fatihah, and we can find their insights in various commentaries. As Muslims, it is essential for us to understand this surah. Dear readers! Surah Al-Fatihah consists of seven verses. However, some scholars argue that the first verse does not count as part of the surah, leading to the belief among some that reciting the first verse is not obligatory. Verses of Surah Al-Fatihah
The seven verses of Surah Al-Fatihah are as follows:
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ١ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٢ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٣ مَٰلِكِ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ ٤ إِيَّاكَ نَعۡبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسۡتَعِينُ ٥ ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ ٦ صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ غَيۡرِ ٱلۡمَغۡضُوبِ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ ٧
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful [1]. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds [2]. The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful [3]. Sovereign of the Day of Recompense [4]. It is You we worship and You we ask for help [5]. Guide us to the straight path [6]. The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray [7]. (Al-Fatihah [1]; 1-7).
The Meaning of Surah Al-Fatihah
(بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ) This phrase explains the name of Allah, the All-Merciful and the Most Merciful.
(ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ) This means that all praise and gratitude belong to Allah, who has provided countless blessings to believers and will grant them Paradise.
(رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ) This phrase indicates that Allah is the Creator of the universe and all its creatures, providing them with sustenance and transforming their conditions.

(ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ) This signifies that Allah loves both the good and the wicked and has protected them from various afflictions.
(ٱلرَّحِيمِ) This means that Allah conceals the sins of His servants in this world, blesses them in the Hereafter, and admits them into Paradise.
(مَٰلِكِ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ) This indicates that Allah is the Lord who governs the Day of Judgment.
(إِيَّاكَ نَعۡبُدُ) This emphasizes that we worship only Allah and no one else.
(وَإِيَّاكَ نَسۡتَعِينُ) This means that we seek help only from Allah, as no one else has the power to prevent disobedience or aid in obedience except Him.
(ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ) This is a plea for Allah to strengthen our faith and guide us to righteousness.
(صِرَٰطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ) This refers to the path of those who have received faith and guidance from Allah, including the Prophets and righteous individuals.
(غَيۡرِ ٱلۡمَغۡضُوبِ عَلَيۡهِمۡ) This indicates that the religion of the Jews has incurred Allah's wrath.
(وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ) This signifies that the religion of Christians is far from the truth of Islam.
